Relax at the Lake

Beach chairs and tables make a great place for soaking up some sun, having a first cup of coffee, a picnic, a barbeque, or watching the sunset, moon rise, or counting shooting stars. Sit in the swinging couch on the bluff under the oaks. The hammock is a fabulous place to rock, read, meditate, or nap.
The Beach
Swan lake is spring fed, wonderfully clean, and clear.

The long beach faces south, enjoying sun all day. The view encompasses coves to the left and right, the length of the lake, distant hills, and the pine-studded state park shore. Sunsets and moonrises can be spectacular.

The beach is gravel, cobble, and sand, sloping gently into the clean, clear spring-fed lake. It is very safe for young children.

Giant glacial boulders offer safe diving for older children and adults. It is plenty deep off the outer edges, and climbing back out on the rock shelves is easy. With a snorkel and mask it’s fun to explore the crevices around the boulders. Curious perch and bass may keep you company. If you scuba dive, there’s another group of boulders deeper offshore.

When thoroughly refreshed, bask on the rocks or the beach and soak up the sun - it’s your vacation!
Watch the Wildlife
The loon family raises its young nearby and visits regularly. The beavers come and go from a lodge in the lily pond, a five minute walk or paddle. The bald eagles nest across the cove in the State Park. They soar and fish off our shore. At times they perch on our rocks!
Come in the Winter!
If you are a winter enthusiast, Twin Oaks may be rented off season. Four-season access by car is easy, but running water is not available. Water for washing and flushing must be carried in (or from the lake). The sun pours onto the shore and into the camp during the winter, so picnics on the porch or beach are still possible. Cross country skiing, snow shoeing, skating, ice boating, ice fishing, and snowmobiling are great fun at Twin Oaks, depending on weather conditions.

Ski areas are within a day's drive. Smaller slopes with lifts and snow-making equipment are located within 30-45 minutes in Hermon and Camden. Major ski areas like Sugarloaf and Sunday River are 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 hours away.
Come Spring and Fall
The oaks, without their leaves, let wonderful light into the cottage during the spring, which is a particularly peaceful time from ice-out until school's out. and put on a spectacular display during the fall.
