Swan Lake is approximately four miles long and one mile wide. The lake is spring fed, wonderfully clean, and clear.
Boating on the Lake
Canoeing, kayaking, sailing, windsurfing, and water skiing are superb on Swan Lake. Our beach slopes quickly for excellent boat access, and a mooring is available nearby. If you have a boat, bring it along. Many types of sail and power boats may be rented nearby.

There is a new public boat ramp at the far end of the lake, on the southwest shore. Power boat traffic is usually light, especially where Twin Oaks is located.
Boats provided:
  • 16' Old Town Canoe.
  • 2 Old Town Otter Kayaks.
  • Lifejackets - 2 adult, 2 child.
Fresh Water Fishing
The Swan Lake fishery includes bass, brook trout, togue (lake trout) and salmon. You can fish from the shore, the boulders, or a boat. We will send depth charts and fishing regulations on request.

Many nearby streams, lakes, and rivers offer additional fishing opportunities. Fishing Depth Maps for each county in Maine are published by the DeLorme Map Company of Freeport, Maine
Ice Fishing
By special arrangement, for especially hardy souls, try ice fishing at Twin Oaks! Our Defiant Wood stove will keep the cold outdoors, and you can walk, skate, ski, snowshoe, or snowmobile to your favorite fishing spots. The season includes the months of January and February, there is a 2 line per person limit, and a daily limit on togue - 1 fish; minimum length limit of 23 inches.
Boating on Salt Water
Salt water is a short distance away on Penobscot Bay. Searsport, Belfast, Stockton Springs, and Bucksport Harbors are an easy 15 minute drive, and all have public boat ramps. Belfast, Camden, and Rockland have tour boats and rental boats, both sail and power.
Salt Water Fishing
Mackerel, Blue Fish, Striped Bass, Cod, Haddock, Flounder, and Tuna are among the salt-water species caught in Penobscot Bay. Atlantic Salmon and Sturgeon are among those caught in the nearby Penobscot and Kennebec Rivers. For those without a boat, there are many boat operators around the bay catering to fisher people.
